February 14, 2009

I wondered why my students were a bit off the wall this week. Perhaps this full moon was part of the problem. I hope my "old" class comes back on Monday.

Even though all these pictures were taken exactly on the day posted, all were taken the week of the 9th. And for me, that's okay.

Even though it wasn't quite Valentines' Day (and even though we really didn't have school on this day), the kids had a party in the afternoon. The room parents were very creative, having the kids make candy IPODS for their craft. Each child had their own box which they had decorated. Each one went home with their box overflowing with those little Valentines, candy, and love from each other.

I have my students doing a technology/math project this week. They are looking for shapes around the school. Each group of three was set out for 1/2 hour to find shapes we studied in this chapter Then they had to bring their cameras back and I had to download them to one person's H drive. I didn't realize how stressful this would be. Next week we should finish this in two days. Done. Finito.I love doing projects but they do take time.

My last Hershey Hotel picture. Each evening the Hershey characters would show up in the lobby. What I liked about KitKat is that s/he showed up with CHAMPAGNE! Before I went in to see the chocolate diamonds in the jewelry store, there was a glass handed to me. What a wonderful way to start the evening.

Still on a Hershey high even though I left two days ago. People are still at PETE&C and I am enjoying learning from then through their plurks. Today I have a two hour prep for music and used most of it reading all the plurks from people such as Anne, Patti and Meg.

February 8, 2009

Before leaving the Hotel Hershey I had to take a picture of the dining room. Mr. Hershey made a ROUND dining room so no one could ask for a "corner" table. This room, though, is another dining room. It is very Spanish looking and gives the feeling of being outdoors. A piano player can be found playing in the afternoon.

February 7 2009

There are so many pictures I could pick for today, but am choosing the collage I made. When I first registered, I was given so many things it was overwhelming. Once I got set up in my room at the Hotel Hershey, I put everything out so I could see it. about a mini-vacation. I checked in, went to the spa for a body scrub (not great), went back to the room, walked around the hotel grounds, back to the spa for a facial (VERY GOOD), got dressed for dinner, went to the outlets and bought one thing at Chicos, then to PNC to get money for dinner. Met Dr. Anne Thorpe from MI and gave her a ride to the Bear's Den where we all had dinner...and I got my chocolate martini...and a great time with all the DEN and PLURK people we could round up. Thanks to Discovery for picking up the tab as well. No one ever does that for teachers. Went back to the room and watched a really great movie on TNT and finally fell asleep around one. Not a great sleep but I was in a hotel so did I care? I'd love to go back to town in the fall or must be beautiful.

Getting ready to go to PETE&C can only mean one thing....a trip to Wegmans. Heaven forbid I don't have something to drink for the 2hour drive. And if I don't meet anyone to have drinks or dinner with on Saturday, I'll have my sprite zero and cheese and crackers.

February 5, 2009....and the scenery is gorgeous

It doesn't look real...they don't look like trees, but indeed they are. The trees of the Pinelands that surround my school in Medford. As the snow fell, the quietness of winter finally found its way to New Jersey. The depressing, brown leafless trees were covered as if someone had taken confectioner's sugar and shook it through a sieve. Quiet, white, and beautiful. This is what winter should be.

February 4, 2009....It's a SNOW DAY

A snow day and that meant a two hour delay! Time for whole grain waffles, syrup from Vermont and mint hot chocolate from Trader Joes. Ahhh....only thing better would have been the entire day off.

February 3, 2009.....Paws for Pa

No matter how much you wipe a dog's paws off, there is always evidence that she was there...and we are so happy to have her...wet paws and all.

February 2, 2009...Time to Visit the Stars

One of the highlights of third grade (or probably the others as well) is a visit to StarLab, the portable planetarium that visits our school once a year. This January the tech teacher, art, music, media specialist and I used the month to integrate the subject of the solar system. The kids loved the stories that Mrs Simpkins told them about the legends of the Greeks and American Indians. They are so knowledgeable now about the stars. I hope, at least one of them, will be inspired to reach for the stars in their lifetime.

February 1, 2009 Second Month

Just had to start this month's photos with this face. She's just the best. For some reason, though, perhaps because she was crated when she was young, every time she comes into the house, she heads right for the corner under the table. Sunny is a joy in my dad's life. Today we took her for a walk around the block. There was still lots of slush and icy walks. I don't understand why people can't clear their side walks; it's just darn dangerous. I know Dad was a little fearful of walking much farther.

I'm thinking how great it would be for my parents to drop Sunny off at my house each evening and I would walk her and bring her back (it's not far; two miles), but as I see snow approaching on Tuesday...well, I'll have to think this through.

Lots of commercials tonight on the Super Bowl about animals.I'm glad we have this one.

The First Month of Pictures

This is a great way to put all the January pictures together. If it works.
